The King William is a modern stylish pub in Essex which has recently been refurbished. We had a 5pm reservation booked. On arrival, there was no one to meet and greet you which was slightly disappointing. We waited a minute however as the entrance is quite open so you feel uncomfortable. We had to grab the attention of a member of staff behind the bar.
Once seated at the table we were given the menu, I must say I was extremely pleased with the menu choice, everything appealed to my taste.
I decided to go with the following dishes:
Starters:
Thyme-Roasted Portobello Mushrooms
in a Cropwell Bishop sauce on rustic toast (v)
• Crayfish & Crab pot
In Devon crab mayonnaise with clabatta bread
Mains:
Roast Rib of Beef
with coarse-grain mustard seasoning and roasted red onion & garlic
Trio of Roasts
Beef, pork and chicken with Bramley apple butter, crackling and lemon & thyme stuffing wrapped in bacon
Worth point out all the King William IV roast are served with goose-fat-roasted potatoes, seasonal greens, honey roasted carrots, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
I could not fault the starters, the crayfish & crab pot had so much flavour. As our booking was a Sunday, without a doubt, we wanted to try the King William IV roast dinner. We opted for the roast beef and the trio of roast. The roast beef was cooked perfectly, and I would go as far as saying it is the best roast dinner in Essex!
The only negative feedback I have was the roast potatoes were not crispy enough but that’s just a personal preference. However, the staff not greeting us in a reasonable time frame was the main disappointment. The staff came across as not being well managed or having a lack of basic customer service skills.
The bill came to £55.00 for 2 people.
This would be an amazing summer pub as there is a lovely beer garden outside.
